My Hero Academia Vol. 1 - 11 (Written and Illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi)

When I review manga going forward, if it's not a complete story told in a handful of volumes like Akira or Pluto then I'm going to be reviewing them piecemeal. Like holy shit, can you imagine if I tried to review One Piece in one lump? It's going to vary from manga to manga, but either I'm going to review what's currently available or a chunk that's around ten volumes and leaves off roughly at the end of a story arc. Volume 11 of My Hero Academia covers All Might's battle with All For One and the aftermath, so that feels like a good enough place to step off for now.

You probably don't need me to tell you what My Hero Academia is (and if you do, think Azumanga Daioh thinks Teen Titans). You've got your typical shounen themes about friendship and rivals and giving it your all and coming up with clever uses for your toolkit. But there's also a lot of fun in seeing all the weird superpowers Horikoshi comes up with, even if some of them wouldn't be too out of place in an episode of The Tick like the guy with tape dispensers in his arms.

It's only a quarter of the whole series so it's mostly introducing characters that are going to be a big deal later, and this is only the start of their character arcs. It's a decent start, but I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with the manga or switch over to the anime, if for no other reason than Chris Sabat's performance as All Might being absolutely delightful (I'm not sure how I feel about Deku sounding like Morty, though)
